Satan (Iblees)

Satan is not a fallen Angel but a Jinn created by Allah from a smokeless fire.

And (remember) when We said to the Angels: "Prostrate yourselves unto Adam." So they prostrated themselves except Iblees (Satan). He was one of the Jinn; he disobeyed the Command of His Lord... (Quran 18:50)

Satan proudly refused to bow to Adam thinking he was better than him.

(Satan) said: "I am better than he (Adam). You created me from fire, and You created him from clay." (Quran 38:76)

Satan was expelled from Paradise along with Adam and Eve but unlike them he remains unrepentant.

They (Adam and Eve) said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." (Allah) said: "Get down, one of you an enemy to the other (Satan an enemy to Mankind). On Earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time." (Quran 7:23-4)

Satan has life until the Last Day, but is cursed as Iblees by Allah.

(Allah) said: "Then get out from here for verily, you are outcast. And verily, My Curse is on you till the Day of Recompense." (Satan) said: "My Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are resurrected." (Quran 38:77-9)

Satan is an avowed misleading enemy to Mankind throughout life, trying to drag as many into Hell as possible.

Verily, Satan is an enemy for you, so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his followers that they may become the dwellers of the blazing (Hell)fire. (Quran 35:6)

Satan has a throne over water from whence he sends out his legions of evil Jinns.

"The throne of Iblees is upon the ocean and he sends detachments (to different parts of Earth) inorder to put people to trial..." (Hadith)

Satan is a liar and particularly loves people to worship false gods (acts of Shirk) besides Allah.

"...The names (of the idols e.g. Wadd, Suwa etc.) formerly belonged to some pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to (prepare and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their names..." (Hadith)

Satan incites people to sin with his traps.

(Satan) said: "O my Lord! Because You misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (Mankind) on the Earth, and I shall mislead them all. Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." (Quran 15:39-40)

Satan is weak and easily defeated by the remembrance of Allah like recitation of the Qur'an.

So when you want to recite the Qur'an, seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the outcast (the cursed one). Verily, he has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allah). (Quran 16:98-9)

Satan will be punished forever in Hellfire.

(Allah) said (to Iblees), "Get out from this (Paradise) disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all." (Quran 7:18)
